Anil Barnes BA(Hons)DArch RIBA - Director

Anil grew up in London, trained at Oxford and Kingston schools of Architecture and was elected to membership of the Royal Institute of British Architects in 1987. In his early career he was employed by Cambridgeshire County Council on their education programme, designing and building several new schools in village locations. At international practice RMJM he was project architect for a new £12m school of medicine at the University of East Anglia, and at Feilden & Mawson he worked on a £20m lab facility for the Institute of Cancer Research. With a developing interest in historic buildings he moved to Feilden & Mawson’s central London office and under leading heritage specialist Hugh Feilden he had the opportunity to carry out Quinquennial surveys on Grade I listed buildings including the Foreign & Commonwealth Office in Whitehall/Downing Street. In 2009 he moved to Sussex and established a practice specialising in domestic, retail and heritage projects. A believer in the potential for Architecture to engage all human senses, Anil is a qualified yoga teacher and likes to spend time exploring the countryside and the traditional architecture of the villages.

“We had a long term plan for expanding our premises and Anil was very good at understanding how we work and designing accordingly. He also took care to address numerous details I never would have thought about, which means our fume extract ventilation system now works effectively and staff don't trip on the stairs any more. More importantly our building is now admired by our customers, it's a delight to work in and I’m fully intending to retain Anil for our next phase. "
